Redwood Wedding & Engagement Photos in the San Francisco Bay Area
August 8, 2026
Dreaming of wedding or engagement photos beneath towering redwoods? The San Francisco Bay Area has some incredible redwood locations, but before choosing the forest for your photos, there are a few things to consider.
Think About the Light
Redwoods create beautiful, soft light, but they also block a lot of it. This means I typically recommend starting a redwood engagement session earlier than I would for a beach or open-field session.
Even better? Choose a location that gives us both redwoods and an open meadow or overlook. We can start in the forest and finish in beautiful golden light.
Be Ready to Walk
Some of the best redwood photo locations require a little exploring. Depending on the park, we may be walking on dirt trails, navigating hills, or heading a short distance from the parking area.
Comfortable shoes are always a good idea. You can bring your photo-ready shoes and change once we reach our spot.
Consider the Weather
Redwood forests tend to be cooler and damper than surrounding areas, especially in the Bay Area. Layers can be helpful, and during wetter months, trails may be muddy.
The upside? Fog, mist, and overcast skies can look absolutely gorgeous among the trees.
Not Every Redwood Location Is the Same
Some Bay Area redwood locations feel deep and dramatic, while others have ferns, winding trails, open meadows, or nearby views.
When helping you choose a location, I consider lighting, crowds, parking, walking distance, permits, accessibility, and the overall look you want for your photos.
Are Redwood Photos Right for You?
If you love nature, don’t mind a little walking, and want your photos to have that unmistakable Northern California feel, a Bay Area redwood engagement session or wedding might be perfect for you.
